There are many recipes which suggest a varied amount of ingredients, but all require eggs, milk, caster sugar, cream and a vanilla pod. Use all of the ingredients except the cream to make custard, then when the custard has been left to get cold stir in the cream.

Pour the cream and custard mixture into an ice cream maker and leave to freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. To make homemade ice cream without an ice cream maker, simply pour into a container, place in the freezer and stir it at regular intervals to prevent any air pockets from forming, as they will stop it from setting.
Once the homemade ice cream has been set serve it in tall sundae glasses, with a selection of toppings and sauces.
