Making homemade tile grout cleaner is an easy, effective, and budget-friendly way to clean and maintain your grout. By using common household products, you can make several different grout cleaners to suit your needs and preferences.

Chemical-Free Tile Grout Cleaner

To make a mild, yet highly effective grout cleaner without harsh chemicals, you will need the following items:

  • 1 part water
  • 3 parts baking soda
  • Grout brush or old toothbrush
  • Sponge
  • Warm water

Combine the water and baking soda to form a paste. Using a grout brush or old toothbrush, work the paste into the grout. Let the paste stand for 15 to 20 minutes. Vigorously scrub the grout to remove stains and dirt. Wipe away the remaining residue with a damp sponge and rinse the area with warm water.

Mold and Mildew Tile Grout Cleaner

To make a grout cleaner that will eliminate mold and mildew, remove tough surface stains, and disinfect, you will need the following items:

  • 1 part bleach
  • 3 parts water
  • Clean spray bottle
  • Grout brush or old toothbrush
  • Sponge

Mix the bleach and water together in a clean spray bottle. Spray a generous amount of cleaner on the grout and let stand 10 to 15 minutes.  Use the grout brush to scrub away tough stains. After scrubbing, wipe the tiles and grout with a damp sponge. CAUTION- use cleaners containing bleach in a well ventilated area.
