A cheap pot rack is a great solution for storing pots and pans in a decorative fashion. However, it can be difficult to find a decent pot rack under $100. There are many options for creating your own cheap and decorative pot rack simply without a lot of materials. The pot rack we will design is made from a salvage wooden screen door. It is important to choose a wooden door for strength and stability when hanging your pots and pans. Be resourceful and use these tips to create a great inexpensive pot rack.

Step 1– Screen Door Touch-ups

You must replace the mesh in the current screen with a thicker heavy-gauge wire mesh. This thicker gauge wire will allow you to hang items from the mesh without it ripping or tearing. Pull off the old mesh wire and with your staple gun simply staple the heavy gauge wire mesh into place.

Step 2– Paint and Personalize

In this step you can let your creative juices flow. If you want something rustic or modern you can use paint to make the exact pot rack that will fit into your kitchen’s theme. You should also determine what color you would like your pot rack to be; paint the screen door to make it fresh and new. This is a great way to personalize your pot rack to fit into the style of your kitchens dynamic.

Step 3– Prepping the Ceiling

Locate the ceiling joists to give you an idea where you can hang your pot rack. They will usually be placed every 16 inches. Once the joist locations are determined, measure your screen door and determine where your eye hooks should be placed. When screwing your eye hooks into the ceiling, make sure you break through into the wood. This will ensure greater stability when you hang your pots and pans. Place hooks on each corner of your screen door; make sure you measure accurately so everything will be aligned with the eye hooks placed in the ceiling.

Step 4– Hang your Pot Rack

Using decorative or simple metal chains you can now hang your pot rack. Measure the distance from the ceiling to the appropriate height for your pots to hang; remember you don’t want them too low or they will be in the way, but too high and they will be out of reach. Now measure four equal lengths of chain and loop them through the hooks placed on the ceiling. Finally attach the chain to the hooks on your door, and your pot rack is finished.

The only thing left to do is simply choose which pots and pans you would like to hang on your pot rack. You also have a great new shelf atop the screen door to place decorative or functional kitchen items. Enjoy this great new piece for your kitchen.
