Making Homemade Squirrel Repellent Making Homemade Squirrel Repellent

Make your own natural squirrel repellant to keep the furry varmints at bay. Here are 2 easy recipes that really work.

For Leaves

  • 1 oz Murphy’s Oil Soap
  • 1 oz Tabasco®
  • 1 oz Cayenne pepper

Pour the 3 ingredients into a large 22-ounce spray bottle and fill with water. This formula lasts for months and can be safely sprayed either onto plants or directly at the squirrel. The soap in this one helps the formula stick to leaves.

    For Dry Spaces

    • 2 Fresh jalapenos, finely diced
    • 1 Onion, finely diced
    • 1 Tbsp. Paprika
    • 1 Tbsp. Cayenne pepper

Heat some water in a small saucepan.  Add the jalapenos, onion and spices as water begins to boil. Let the mixture simmer for at least 10 minutes. The water will turn greenish. Let cool.

Pour liquid through cheesecloth or a fine strainer into a bowl. Discard any residue. Then use a funnel to pour liquid into a spray bottle.

Spray plants at least once a week, or more in rainy weather.
