Matching Countertops with Your Backsplash Matching Countertops with Your Backsplash
A countertop backsplash should match in a kitchen or a bathroom. That’s the common wisdom and it’s what most people want. Actually matching the countertop and backsplash isn’t always particularly easy, however.
Buying both backsplash and countertop together guarantees that they’ll match. This is the easy way, but it’s not always possible. If you find a countertop you really like that has a backsplash, buy it!
If you have the countertop, but not a matching backsplash, you can always try contacting the manufacturer to see if they still stock the item and have one that will match. If you have a stock number or some similar identifier, there’s a good chance they’ll be able to help you.
Depending on the type of countertop you have, you could always try looking in a salvage yard to a matching backsplash. The older your countertop, the great the chance of you being able to find something that will match.
Sometimes you just can’t find a backsplash that matches your countertop. That’s when you have a problem, and the only solution is to find one that’s wildly different, either by going with plain tiles or a backsplash that contrasts with your countertop.
