May DIM Star: Backyard Pergola
Once a month we like to shine the spotlight on an impressive DIYer by giving their shared project the ol’ “Did It Myself” (DIM) stamp of honor. And, as an added bonus, all DIM stars are automatically entered into consideration for our first annual DIM Awards next May.
This month we congratulate “Stephsev” on their pergola. Share your project and you could be our next star!
What He Did
After much research and planning, Stephsev constructed a four-post 16x10’ pergola in their backyard over an existing concrete 15.5x12’ patio. They also created a sunshade using outdoor material, conduit, and eye hooks to hang it from the top of the structure. Their total cost for the whole project was $2,500.
Why We Like it
The pergola adds not only shade to the backyard, but a design element that dresses up the landscape. With some basic construction knowledge, pergolas are easy to build according to your needs.
