Metal Roofing Screws: Installation Tips

If you are installing a metal roof on your home, metal roofing screws will be the most important part of the job.  Here are some things to consider.

Choosing the Type of Screws

One of the major differences between traditional screws and metal roofing screws are the caps they are manufactured with.  Working with metal siding and roofing will often create gaps when the screws are inserted into the metal. This can potentially cause damage in the future.  Find roofing screws with either manufactured rubber caps or washers that will create a proper seal. This will prevent any possibility of rust or erosion.

Proper Placement

Make sure that you are not placing the roofing screws too close to each other or too far apart.  Generally, it is best to place each roofing screw about one and half to two feet apart, but no more than that.

Proper Tools

Not only is it crucial to have proper metal roofing screws, but using a proper screw gun such as one powered by an air compressor will ensure safety, as well as a strong finished look.
