Mortar and Pestle

Mortar and pestles are still used worldwide. The mortar and pestle originally came about in the 15th century when ancient pharmacists used them to make medicine to help heal people. They may no longer be used to mix medicine, however they still have other uses.

mortar and pestle is used by taking a substance and putting it into the mortar, or a bowl, and putting the pestle on top of it to crush the substance with a circular motion while applying downward force. Some people still use this technique to grind up food as a part of their “food crafting” techniques.
