Natural Non-Abrasive Tile Cleaner Options Natural Non-Abrasive Tile Cleaner Options

Widely available tile cleaner options range from harsh to hazardous. But if you're looking for a kinder tile cleaner, try these non-abrasive options, many of which you may already have in your home.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a great non-toxic tile cleaner. Combine baking soda with warm water, adjusting the ratio according to how strong you need your solution to be, or simply sprinkle the baking soda directly onto the tiles and scrub with a non-abrasive sponge or cloth, then rinse with water.

White Vinegar and Lemon

You can make this solution with either white vinegar or lemon juice separately but a great tile cleaner can be made using both ingredients. Combine equal parts hot water and white whine vinegar and a third part lemon juice. Mix well and then either pour straight onto the tiles or spray it on with a spray bottle. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then scrub with a soft cloth or sponge and rinse clean.

Borax

Borax is a natural compound but it can irritate skin and is dangerous if large quantities are ingested. If you mix a teaspoon of borax with about two cups of water it makes a great tile cleaner. Apply and scrub away as described above.
