Paint brush
Drop cloth
Face mask

If the color of your bedroom nightstands no longer matches the décor of your bedroom, you can give them a fun paint makeover. You can paint your bedroom nightstands like a professional with a few simple steps.

Step 1 – Choosing the Right Color Paint

Select a paint for the bedroom nightstands that matches the other colors in your bedroom, such as the color of your wall paint, your bed or other accessories. Take a picture of the wall or bed, and take it with you when you go to buy paint at your local home improvement store. If you are not sure about which color to select, consult the paint specialists in the store for ideas and suggestions.

Step 2 – Preparing the Area for Painting

Choose a well-ventilated area and lay a drop cloth down on the ground or on a table. Place the bedroom nightstands on top of the cloth. Painting is a messy job. So, make sure you are wearing clothes you don't mind getting paint on. Also wear gloves and face mask.

Step 3 – Remove the Nightstand Hardware

Remove the handles and knobs from the bedroom nightstands using a screwdriver. You will need to loosen the screws from inside and the handles will come off easily. Set your handles aside so that you can screw them back once the painting is finished. Tape them inside the nightstands with masking tape so that you don’t lose them.

Step 4 – Strip the Old Paint

Stripping is done to remove the old paint. Apply stripper all over the bedroom nightstands and let it set according to the manufacturer's directions. Rub the paint with a steel wool sponge to remove it easily. You should use a paint stripper that can remove paint from wood and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Remember to take all safety precautions because the fumes from the stripper are not good for you.

Step 5 – Roughen the Surface

Thoroughly rub the surface of the bedroom nightstands using sandpaper. The sandpaper is used to roughen the surface so that the paint will stick to it easily. Remember to wear a mask to prevent the inhalation of dust particles. After sanding, clean the entire surface using a damp sponge to remove all the dust from sanding and leave it there to dry.

Step 6 – Prepare Paint for Painting

Open the lid of the paint can and stir the paint gently using a long stick. Paint the furniture using a brush or a roller kit. A paint roller kit can give you a uniform finish and works much better than a brush.

Now, paint the nightstands and leave it to dry. When the first coat dries, add a second coat. Lastly, replace the handles of your bedroom nightstands.
