Plywood Plywood

Plywood is a manufactured wood made to be strong and durable and commonly used in building construction. Plywood comes in several thicknesses and many grades, so finding one that is suited to your use is quite easy.

How is Plywood Made?

Plywood is made by gluing together thin layers of wood called plies in alternating directions layer by layer. Most plywood is made using odd numbers of layers (i.e. 3, 5 or 7). Also, the majority of plywood is manufactured in 4 x 8 sheets, but is available in a range of sizes.

Advantages of Using Plywood

• Plywood is very strong due to crossing adjacent layers when manufacturing.
• Solid wood is subject to shrinkage, swelling and warping, whereas plywood avoids these properties for the same reasons as why it is so strong – crossing adjacent layers.
• Economical
• Available in a wide range of sizes

Plywood is a logical choice for many building projects and with the large selection of size and grade, you are sure to find something to suit your budget and your project.
