There are a number of reasons why you should polish brass. Not only does polishing remove unsightly tarnishing, but it also helps to bring out the shine to keep it looking like new.
Step 1 – Choose Method
There are several methods that can be used to polish brass, with the one chosen depending on the item and the extent of the tarnishing. Pre-made brass polishes can be abrasive and are not always beneficial for delicate or antique items.
Step 2 – Application
The ingredients of toothpaste work well to polish brass and can be applied in the same way as a normal polish before being rinsed. Heavy tarnishing can be rectified with household items if you are reluctant to use brass polish. Hot vinegar is an ideal substance to use to polish brass, with it possible to submerge the item in the liquid. After this, the brass can be rinsed in warm water.
Step 3 – Finish
Following the application of the cleaning substance, the brass should be buffed with a chamois cloth to bring out the shine. Rub the cloth over the brass in a circular motion and work methodically to cover the entire surface.
