Preparing to Install K-Style Gutters Preparing to Install K-Style Gutters

K-style gutters are the most popular type gutters used on homes. They are easy to install and maintain, and the gutters will usually last for many years. If you install K gutters yourself, you can save a ton of money. However, in order to ensure a perfect installation, you will need to spend some time planning and preparing.

Planning the Installation

Before you begin, you should take out a pencil and pad and draw the sides of your home and how the gutters will be installed. This will give you a good idea of the how much trough and how many center drops for downspouts you will need. When planning your installation, keep in mind that a single downspout can support the water flow of approximately 30 to 40 linear feet of eaves-trough (depending on the amount of rain you get in your area). Also, when designing your gutter system, remember that the slope needs to be on a downward grade for water to flow into downspouts properly.

Replace Bad Fascia Boards Before You Start

You will also want to replace any damaged fascia boards on your home before you install the new K-style gutter system. When you remove your older gutters, leaks or cracks in the old gutters will probably have left a few fascia boards with water damage. In order to properly support the new gutters, you need to ensure that all fascia boards are solid and strong.
