Kitchen cork flooring can be a striking alternative to the usual tile or wood laminate. There are a few pros and cons to think about when you are considering a cork floor for your kitchen.


Cork flooring is resistant to bacteria and mold, which is a definite plus in the room where food is prepared. Cork also does not scratch easily, so if a knife or sharp object falls from a worktop, it may not be as damaging to the floor as it would be with another material. This is also a great plus if you own a cat, dog, or other pets with claws.


Kitchen cork flooring might not be a good idea because though it is scratch resistant, it is susceptible to deep cuts. Cork can also be damaged by heavy appliances, which is a problem in the kitchen. Also, be aware that you cannot clean a cork floor with a mop. Too much water will discolor and warp the cork, so any spills need to be cleaned immediately with just a damp cloth. Add to this the price tag for cork flooring, which can be considerably more than for tile or wood, and you may decide to pass on kitchen cork flooring.
