Wall cabinets can be an expensive purchase. They can also be heavy to hold and difficult to hang. It is, however, possible for you to do the job yourself and save some money in the process.
Measuring the Wall
Use a measuring tape and measure from the floor, the amount of space you will need under the cabinet. Use a pencil to lightly mark the point where bottom cabinets will end. Use a level to be sure the cabinets will be hung properly. Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs. Mark the location of the wall studs with your pencil. You will need to use the studs to help in supporting the weight of the cabinets.
Installing a Ledger Board
Install a ledger board just under the pencil guide line and on the stud locations. This board will help in supporting the weight of the cabinets while they are being hung, and will be removed once the job is complete.
Removing the Cabinet Doors
Use a screwdriver to remove the doors from the cabinets. The cabinets will be lighter and easier to handle without the door.
Hanging the Cabinets
Use you ledger board and leveling tool to hang the cabinets properly. Shims may be required in the installation. Reattach the doors once the cabinets have been hung.
