Redo Kitchen Cabinets on a Budget: 4 Tips and Tricks

There are a number of different ways you can redo kitchen cabinets, extending their life and improving their appearance. Redoing your cabinets doesn't have to break the bank either. Here are some tips that might help you.

Tip 1 - Painting

A simple coat of paint can transform dull looking cabinets and brighten up your whole kitchen. Before you paint, remove the doors of the cabinets. Paint the doors and the frames making sure you have covered all the grooves. Leave the paint to dry thoroughly before you rehang the doors.

Tip 2 - Papering

Many kitchen cabinets will have a central section on the door that can be easily covered with some textured or patterned wallpaper to give them a completely new look. You can also use sticky-backed plastic to give the same effect.

Tip 3 - Refinishing

This is a handy way of treating kitchen cabinets that have no grooves or designs carved into them. Remove the doors and then sand them and include the cabinet frames. You can then apply a varnish or stain of your choice. You may also wish to apply a self-adhesive covering to the cabinets like a specialized laminate.

Tip 4 - Stenciling

If you have painted your cabinets, you can stencil beautiful designs on the surfaces. Stenciling kits are sold in most hardware stores.
