Remove Latex Paint from Stone Tiles in 5 Steps
While it may seem like a tough task, it isn't too hard to remove latex paint from stone tiles. Here are a few steps that will help to make the process go by smoothly.
Step 1 - Get the Room Ready
You will want to make sure that tarp or plastic is laid down on top of floor and that any furniture is moved out of the way. Use tape to secure the plastic cover so that nothing in the room is showing besides the tiles that you will be working on. Also, you will want to make sure that no lights or flames are on while working with the chemical stripper.
Step 2 - Remove Loose Paint
With the scraper you can work through the tiles to take off any paint that may be loose and easily removed. Once the loose paint is off you can clean the tiles and dry them so that the paint stripper can really get in to do its job.
Step 3 - Apply Paint Stripper
Apply the paint stripper using a paint brush. Look at the back of the bottle to find out how long you will want to leave it on for. Then time it to make sure that you are following the instructions. While you are doing this step you will want to open every window in the room as well as having a fan going in and out of the room to keep the air circulating. Also, safety gloves and glasses should be kept on at all times.
Step 4 - Scrape and Wash
Once the time is up for the paint stripper you will want to begin scraping off the paint. It should come off easily and if it doesn't then just move on to the next section. You can use the scraper or the wire brush to get all of the paint off of the stone tile. Then once everything is off or at least everything that you can possibly get off is gone then you will want to wipe it down with water and an old rag.
Step 5 - Use Rubbing Stones, then Wash
Once you have gotten everything off with the scraper you can try using the rubbing stones to get the rest of the paint removed. Then wipe down the surface completely.
If all of the paint does not come off the first time then just carefully repeat the steps again and apply the chemical paint stripper to the areas that still have paint on them. Once you finally have all of the paint off make sure to give it a thorough cleaning.
Now that you have removed the paint you can take the next step in deciding how you want to decorate from here.
