Rubber carpet pads are a sustainable way to cover your floors and are more resistant to mold. Rubber carpet pads may be of 2 types: waffle rubber and flat rubber. The waffled rubber pads have a waffled texture and are less durable than flat rubber pads, which are more expensive. Regardless of the type of rubber carpet pads you have, these can get old and you may want to replace them. To remove the rubber carpet pads you will need the following tools and materials:
- Pry bar
- Odorless solvent
- Plastic scraper
Step 1 – Remove Staples
Most rubber pads are installed using adhesive and staples. Identify the staples and remove these using pliers.
Step 2 -- Use a Pry Bar
Use a pry bar to remove the rubber pads from your floor. Pull firmly and cut off larger pieces of rubber as you advance.
Step 3 – Use Solvent
If in some areas you cannot remove the rubber pads due to the adhesive, use an odorless solvent. Apply the solvent on the padding and let it soak in. The glue should be easier to remove. Use a plastic scraper to remove the pads from your floor.
