Removing Sealant: Silicone Residue Removal Tips

If you've recently spilled any sealant silicone on any of your home's surfaces, you may be curious about how to get rid of it. If so, you'll be pleased to learn that silicone sealant can be quickly removed with the aid of a few household tools.

Step 1 - Preliminary Scraping

Begin the sealant silicone removal process by using a putty knife or razor blade to carefully scrape away as many dried silicone deposits as possible. When performing this step, take care not to allow your scraping tool to come into contact with the surface.

Step 2 - Apply Your Mineral Spirits

Having performed your preliminary scraping, apply mineral spirits to the sealant silicone deposits. Once the spirits have been applied, use a sponge to vigorously wipe the surface. Continue wiping until the dried silicone has loosened, after which you will need to peel the weakened silicone deposits off your surface and throw them away. Once all the silicone sealant has been successfully purged, you'll be ready to proceed with the final step.

Step 3 - Apply Your Finishing Touches

Upon removing all the silicone, use a mild soap and a dampened sponge or washcloth to give your surface a thorough cleaning before proceeding to reuse it.
