Repair a Clogged Auto AC Condenser
Repairing a clogged auto AC condenser will need special attentions and analysis of the condenser structure as a whole. The system in which the auto AC functions will have many parts, each contributing to a single stage of the cooling process.
Cooling System Split Steps
- The compressor is the first section of cooling system and its work is to make sure that by driving power from the belt driven from the crankshaft of the engine. Once we switch the AC on, the compressor will use high pressure and heat to vaporize the refrigerant stored in the same.
- The condenser will convert the vapor into liquid form; this is done with the help of the fans inside the engine grille and the radiator.
- Moisture is removed from the liquid refrigerant in the drier receiver cabinet, as moisture is danger to our blood stream.
- Pressure is removed from the dried refrigerant at the valve; converts it into vapor again.
- Evaporator will absorb the heat using this low pressure vapor and supply the cooler air inside the vehicle.
This being the case condensers are known to get clogged with the remains of the high pressure refrigerant and other particle residues. Since the condenser functions as a conversion section for the AC system, the residues will stay at the bottom of the condenser. The condenser will then become vulnerable to the effects of the residual sticky paste like formation which will hinder the conversion process further. The results of this clogging will be the improper functioning of the same along with foul smelling air circulation. The conversion should be done completely and if not, the air we inhale from the AC unit is likely to cause blood freezing and cholesterol blockage in the blood stream.
Repairing the Condenser Clogging Problem
- Open the engine hood and get access to the radiator system of the vehicle. This will be the place where the condensers are located in most of the vehicles manufactured these days. Disconnect the in and out pipes of the condenser unit.
- Find the condenser inside the protective cover beside the radiator grille. The same might also be found above the radiator in some cases. Wherever the condenser is located, we need to gain access to the part so that we can dismantle the condenser section alone without disturbing the other parts of the engine or the AC system.
- Remove the screws and lift the protective cover; lift the condenser unit away from the radiator grille. Open the box hinges in it and brush/wipe the residue found at the bottom of the plate in it. This will clean the bottom section of condenser.
- Remove the clippings inside to dismantle the condenser module from the box covering. This should be cleaned well with the soft dry cloth.
- Clean the entry and exit pipes of the air flow duct in the box cover to facilitate easier motion flow of the vapor / liquid refrigerant.
- Replace the cleaned parts back into the slots of the box cover, place it over the radiator slot where you found it and screw the cover back in place. Reconnect the disconnected air flow pipes.
