Cube shelves are popular types of shelves because they utilize space well and enable better organization of your items. However, in time they may require some repairs. Common damages include cracks in the wood, peeling paint and sagging shelves. Let us describe how to carry out basic repairs and maintenance jobs.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Wood putty
- Wood filler
- Putty knife
Step 1 - Repairing Small Cracks
If you notice any cracks in the wood, you should fill them up with wood putty of a similar color. Smooth it out neatly using a putty knife. When it has dried, sand the area lightly with a fine grit sandpaper, and then wipe with a damp rag to remove the dust.
Step 2 - Repairing Larger Cracks
If there are relatively large cracks, it is best to fill them with some wood filler instead of wood putty. Then repeat the same procedure as described in the previous step.
Step 3 - Fixing Sagging Shelves
If there are any shelves which are starting to sag, it is best to install an additional bracket in the middle of the cube's base. Check the existing brackets to see if they are broken, so that you replace them if there is the need to. If they are just loose, you might just need to replace one or two screws which may have unfastened.
