Floating ball valves are found on a number of appliances that use of water tanks, enabling the flow of water to be controlled. As a homeowner you probably have several in your various plumbing apparatus. Repairs may sometimes be required to ensure that the valve continue to work as it should. Following the steps for the repair process will ensure that the valves work correctly.
Start the repair process by making yourself aware of the actual fault that affects the floating ball valves. You will find that its location is often protected by a lid, which will need to be removed. Check all the components to determine where the problem lies and make a note of any new parts that will be necessary. Once you are aware of the problem, you will be in a better position to know how to undertake repair, which will determine what tools are required. Make sure you gather everything needed before beginning.
In some cases, you may find that the floating ball valves do not work as they should because the joints have become stiff. In this situation, you can treat it with some lubricating oil to grease the valves and free them up. It will be possible to undertake this with taking it apart.
You may find that you need to take apart some of the components of the floating ball valves in order to effect a worthwhile repair. Start by draining the water from the tank that contains the ball valve and turn off the water supply; this will make it easier to work on the defective valves. The float arm can be removed from its holding by withdrawing the securing pins with a pair of pliers. Once the arm is free from its holding, it will be easier to take apart to remove the faulty section. A wrench can be used to loosen the cap at the end of the valve, which may require the assistance of lubricating oil. This will allow the piston section of the arm to be properly withdrawn and disassembled.
Remove any defective sections of the floating arm valves and replace them with matching parts, making sure that they are of the same specifications as the original. If necessary, replace any fasteners that have become worn during this step. Fasteners can sometimes also need to be replace.
With the new parts in place, reassemble the floating ball valves by reversing the disassembly process. Securely assemble the floating arm by tightly twisting the cap back in place using the wrench. If necessary, check the manual that came with the components to determine how this should be undertaken. Complete the assembly of the floating arm first, which will make it easier to attach it to the holding within the tank. Once it is tightly in place, test your work by turning the water supply back on and checking whether the floating arm moves freely as water is flushed out of the system. If it is fine, the tank can be refilled and the lid replaced.
