Residential Carpet Life Expectancy Residential Carpet Life Expectancy

Buying residential carpet is not something that most people do regularly. Therefore, you really do not know what to expect as far as how long it will last. Here are a few things to consider about residential carpet life expectancy.

Carpet Life Expectancy

When you start to shop for carpet, you will immediately notice that there is a vast selection of styles to choose from. When shopping, you should also realize that not all carpets are created equal. While it might seem like they are all very similar, different styles of carpet last for different amounts of time.

Inexpensive, apartment-grade carpet will typically last anywhere from 1 to 5 years. A medium grade carpet will last between 5 to 15 years. The best of the best carpet on the market will last between 15 and 25 years on average. A lot of it depends on how you treat the carpet and how you maintain it over the years as well.

Carpet Fiber

Another big factor in how long a carpet will last is the fiber that it is made out of. When you are buying a polyester carpet, you would typically expect it to be on the low to medium time frame. With nylon or triexta, you can get some of the longer lasting carpet on the market.
