One of the things that you can do if you want to build your own scaffolding is to salvage scaffolding parts to create your own. This will allow you to create your own custom scaffolding to suit your needs, ensuring that you have everything you need and that your scaffolding meets your requirements in terms of height.
Step #1: Base Station
In order to secure the stability of your salvaged scaffolding, you should support your scaffolds on base plates or some other firm foundation such as mudsills for example. Supported poles, uprights and frames for your scaffolds should all be plumb and they should all be braced in order to prevent any possible displacement that is caused as a result of swaying.
Step #2: Access
You should never be using the cross braces of your salvaged scaffolding as a means of accessing the platforms. Instead, you should create or salvage a specific means of access such as a ladder that can be mounted to the scaffolds for example.
Step #3: Bracing
You should be connecting panels and their frames using horizontal, diagonal or cross braces as a combination in order to secure the vertical members laterally. Because each of the frames is stacked, you should make sure that the cross braces are keeping the scaffold properly square, properly plumb and properly level at all times. All of the brace connections are going to need to be secured in order to keep them from becoming dislodged.
Step #4: Guardrail System
All towers, regardless of whether they are portable, salvaged or otherwise, are going to require standard rails. These standard guardrail systems are going to need to be installed along all of the open sides as well as both ends of every platform as well for the most amount of security.
Step #5: Platform
Except for when they are being used as walkways, the purpose of the platform is to serve as the primary working area. Since this is the place where most of the work is going to be performed, it is vitally important that this surface be strong enough to carry large loads and heavy foot traffic as well.
Step #6: Pinning
The frames and the panels need to be able to be joined together in a vertical manner, which is done through the use of coupling or stacking pins or some other equivalent means. The frames and the panels also need to be capable of being locked together for the purpose of preventing uplift from occurring.
