A storm door closer's purpose is to adjust the closing of the door so that it doesn't close too fast or too slow. With the information below, you will be able to adjust for precision.
Tip 1 – Preparation for Making Adjustments
In adjusting your storm door closer, you will need to keep your door open while you make the adjustments. You can do this by sliding the washer that holds the door open. To get the right adjustment, you'll need the door open about eight inches. Don't make the mistake of opening it all the way, or your adjustment will be off.
Tip 2 – Adjusting the Closer
There are adjustment holes in the door bracket. You'll need to line up the cylinder pin with one of these holes that makes the right adjustment. To do this, you will need to remove the pin connecting the door bracket and closer. You will not be able to make this adjustment without removing this pin. But the most important adjustment to make is on the adjustment screw at the end of the closer cylinder. By turning this screw you can change the closing speed of the door: clockwise to slow it, counterclockwise to speed it up.
