Stripping Oil Based Paint from Wood Stripping Oil Based Paint from Wood

If you are stripping paint from wood, it may seem like an impossible task, but here are a few tips to follow to make the job easier for you.

Reading the Instructions

Make sure you read the instructions for the chemical stripper to make sure that that you know how long you should keep it on for.

When Applying Chemical Paint Stripper

When you apply the paint thinner, it is best if you do it evenly.

Removing Paint Stripper

Don't worry about making a mess here. Just scrape off as much as you can and then wipe with a rag. Oftentimes, you will need to use a knife to get further into the smaller parts or even a toothpick. Don't be afraid to really work it in there because you will be treating the wood afterwards anyway.

Repeat if Necessary

Sometimes all of the paint may not come off the first time. If that is the case, just re-apply the stripper again.

The process overall isn't too bad. One other tip would be to do this outside because of the smell of the chemical stripper. Other than that, this project should go by smoothly if you follow these tips.
