Terms of the Trade: What Is a Rotary Tool? Terms of the Trade: What Is a Rotary Tool?
Rotary tools are known for their speed--usually around 30,000 rpm. Small in size and shaped like a fat-handled screw driver, they have a holding device at one end for rotary files, grinding wheels, sanding drums, cutoff wheels, and other accessories. Because they're small, rotary tools are useful for getting into tight spaces that other power tools can't reach.
