Terms of the Trade: What Is Sheetrock? Terms of the Trade: What Is Sheetrock?

Sheetrock is a trademark name of drywall, which is used in construction to make walls and ceilings in buildings. Whether it's Sheetrock or another brand, all drywall panels are made of gypsum plaster with sheets of thick paper on either side. Since Sheetrock is simply a brand name, the term may be used when the more general word "drywall" is intended (just like stating Band-Aid when the item implied is bandage).
