Pros and Cons Terraced Basement Window Well Pros and Cons Terraced Basement Window Well

A basement window well is a great way to bring a little light and color into your basement area. If you have patio or French doors in your basement which lead to a lower area than the ground, a window well is a perfect solution because it is a good use of space and it gives you somewhere to sit and take in the morning air.

Pros of Basement Window Wells

Basement window wells are a great source of natural light. They can brighten up the dullest of basement surroundings. You can set planters around and add a flood of color to the area, making it stand out from all other window wells. Having a plot of uneven land, which you can dig out and square off, means you can use bricks and build well walls around the soil to support it. It is a good barrier, especially if you live in a damp climate.

Cons of Basement Window Wells

Sadly, the opposite is also true. Window wells do make that basement area vulnerable to flooding, so you will need to make sure there is good water drainage and flood protection to stop water damage if the well does floods.
