The 4 Types of Floor Drain Grate Covers
Drains are meant to carry bad waters and have to be covered with floor drain grates. These grates are covers installed on top of the drain holes to avoid large items (which may block the internal system) from falling into it. Due to the different requirements posed by areas in which they are used, they come in various shapes and sizes depending upon the user specifications and can be seen at various locations in our day to day lives. Their types are classified according to their making.
These floor grate covers are manufactured in standard designs sighting the demands of economic make. They have pressed pattern lids which are under braced. The amount of load that can be borne by them varies according to the dimensions. Available in single and double locking mechanisms, these are very safe and hard to break which provides adequate security from people who might want to break in. Their frames are made of polypropylene and are galvanized to the BSEN ISO 1461 standards.
Having more strength than the steel type, these are strong enough to be used on the highways and confirm to the BS 7903 standards. They can carry heavy loads and are very sturdy (test loaded at approximately 70 tones). Talking about their specifications, they are made of ductile iron for better strength/weight ratio, to enhance the bonding mechanism, anti movement technology is used. The result is that these grates are very silent and stable when in use. They are generally used in industrial locations where heavy machinery is deployed.
HDPE In-Line Drainage Type
Preferred by most do it yourself users, these drainage gratings are best for contractors of buildings. They are made of HDPE, steel or ductile iron and are very light weight due to which, they can be installed by anyone alone. These drains meet the standards put forth for buildings, structures, roads etc. by the safety and the regulatory authorities. The best feature about them is their non breakability which makes it a good choice. Because of the composition, they can sustain various concentrations of different acids and can tolerate high degrees of temperatures.
Linear Channel Drainage Type
Available in various widths, these grates come in two types. The first is meant to carry domestic loads whereas the second for heavy industrial loads. Developed with polymer concrete and been in use for a long time, they are very popular because of the freedom of design (choice of sizes). Considered ideal for roads and home use, they come with a full range of accessories to provide a complete finish.
Manholes also come in the same categories which act as protective covering of the drainage systems running below the city. These have lids which enable proper lifting and replacing. Because they need to be removed from time to time to allow for cleaning and maintenance, the floor drain grates installed should always be of good quality. A defective one can break due to unsustainable loads which may be due to passing traffic.
