National Painting Week Kicks Off April 15

Sherwin-Williams is celebrating National Painting Week beginning April 15, 2013. According to the National Home Color Survey, two out of three homeowners are planning a painting project this spring. Furthermore, three out of four would like to incorporate more color in their homes, especially the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. To celebrate National Painting Week, Sherwin-Williams employees will donate products as well as participate in helping restore nonprofits, churches and schools in their local communities. Projects include painting baseball fields, YMCAs, churches, schools, Boys & Girls Clubs and more.

Conejo Valley Home Remodeling Show

This year’s Conejo Valley Home Remodeling Show & Gourmet Food Truck Event, a bi-annual event since 1995, will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza in Westlake, CA. The show will play host to more than 150 home improvement specialists including landscapers, kitchen and bath contractors, interior designers, and many more. "Spring is the time when homeowners start planning their summer improvement projects. The home show gives them the opportunity to talk with a variety of professionals all at one location," says Rick Goodman, the show's organizer. This will mark the 36th year of the show.

Red Bull Creation: The “TurBULL Encabulator”

Red Bull will be holding its yearly innovation competition in Brooklyn, NY. If you want to apply, create a team and head over to Red Bull Creation at The first 200 applicants will receive a custom designed piece of hardware named the “TurBULL Encabulator” to incorporate into the build. “The TurBULL Encabulator is our very own super simple, but extremely complicated, multi-function circuit board designed to give Makers a powerful tool in the creation of controllable LED lighting art and inventions.”

Once contestants have completed their project, Red Bull wants them to create a video of it on display in the public and send it in to be judged. The six best teams will be flown to Brooklyn to take part in a theme-driven live-build competition at the Northside Festival’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Expo from June 12th through the 16th. The teams will be provided materials and equipment in Williamsburg’s McCarren Park, where they will collaborate and invent something amazing. The winning team will take home $10,000.

WCMA Product Competition Winners

Going on its 18th consecutive year, Hunter Douglas has won more awards than any other company in the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) Product Awards. This year Hunter Douglas claimed 34 out of 56 awards given. “We’re very pleased that the Window Covering Manufacturers Association independent panel of judges has given such a strong endorsement of our innovative products and programs,” said Marv Hopkins, Hunter Douglas President and CEO. “We’re grateful for these honors and look forward to providing our many exciting new products and programs to our loyal customers throughout the U.S. and Canada.”

Looking at another product that won some awards at the WCMA, The Duette® Honeycomb Shades Collection was named Best Style Concept. The collection included five new highly insulating Architella® fabrics with the cell-within-a-cell construction, showing improvements upon innovation that lead the industry.

The Duette® Architella® Trielle™ walked away with Most Innovative Overall Concept in the Green Products – Energy Efficiency Category. “This new proprietary product provides similar light transmission as original Duette Architella shades, but with 20 percent more energy efficiency by adding an additional cell within a honeycomb cell, creating six fabric layers and five separate air pockets for insulation.”
