Superstorm Sandy Rescue Remodel Contest
From fire stations ravaged by Hurricane Sandy to community homeless shelters, five worthy groups from across the country have been selected for The Family Handyman Rescue Remodel Contest, sponsored by IKEA:

- Moonachie Fire Department in Moonachie, New Jersey
- IHS Development in Newark, New Jersey
- Simpson Housing Services in Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Franklin Fire Station #1 in Franklin, Wisconsin
These groups have dedicated their lives to helping others, and now people across America can show their support and gratitude by casting their vote at www.RescueRemodel.com from now through March 30. Anyone is invited to vote once a day and those who participate will be entered for a chance to win a $100 IKEA gift card. The organization with the most votes will win a fabulous IKEA kitchen makeover, valued at $25,000.
Asphalt Roofing Awards
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has announced the winners of their 3rd annual (QARC) awards program. Industry judges awarded the prizes to: a building that houses a federal agency that monitors marine life and climate, an insurance company that wanted to add a vegetated roof, and an upscale home in a bucolic residential community prone to frequent rainfall. QARC is designed to recognize architects, contractors and specifiers who use asphaltic roofing materials on low-slope and steep-slope building projects for its beauty, affordability and reliability. The competition drew a mix of residential and commercial roofing projects from all over the United States. HIRI 2013 Spring Conference Agenda Announced
