Artisans, Crafters Sought for 2013 Grand Central Holiday Fair
Grand Central Terminal is hosting a call to artists in March for its 2013 Holiday Fair, the final event of Grand Central’s Centennial year. Artisans are invited to the Terminal to show samples of their products and receive feedback from Holiday Fair merchandising consultants on March 12 and 13 from 9am to 5pm. The focus for this year’s Holiday Fair is on locally made and American-made merchandise. Products must be handmade, and each year include artwork, clothing for all ages, accessories and home goods. A range of products and price points guarantees that New Yorkers, commuters, and tourists alike can find interesting gift items for others as well as covet-worthy items for themselves. More than 1 million shoppers visit Grand Central Terminal each day of the Holiday Fair. Planners spend the year looking for unique vendors and are highly selective about the artists chosen to participate. Artisans in recent GCT fairs not only have sold high volumes of product, but also have landed high-profile wholesale accounts with major retailers, sold pieces to museums, broadened their retail client bases, and have been profiled on local and national TV. For this year’s artisan call, merchandising consultants are interested in all product categories. However, food products will not be evaluated at this time. Chicago to Air New Home Improvement Show
"Weekend Workbench," a new television show produced by Oak Brook Productions in Chicago, was developed with the goal of helping to motivate Chicago do-it-yourselfers. The show will air on Sundays, debuting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 7, on WGN-TV. Michael Curkov, a 2006 graduate of Western Illinois University, is a co-producer of the show and commented to his alma mater that, "There is no other show like it right now. We're doing things like replacing the belts on a snow blower, building a planter box and installing shelving, things the average homeowner should be able to do themselves." November, December and January have been spent in pre-production for the show, and filming on 13 episodes began several weeks ago.
