Tips to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

ServiceMaster by Singer has laid out some tips on how home owners can cut back on energy costs while also increasing the value of their home.

First and foremost, ServiceMaster highlights the importance of proper siding for your home. Not only will this make your home more visually appealing, but it also protects the structure of the building. Insulated siding is the key to energy efficiency because it blocks air pockets and keeps the cool or warm air inside. It is important to have your HVAC inspected at least once a year, as even with properly insulated siding energy costs can increase without an efficient HVAC system.

Next up, ServiceMaster by Singer suggests regular inspection of your home’s roof, especially when the weather starts to warm up, and one month before the weather gets cold. Be sure to clear your gutters of debris during both rainy and fire seasons.

Lastly, they stress the importance of checking your doors for small cracks. Drafts often come from poorly insulated doors and can impact your energy efficiency greatly.

Instant and Affordable Color Scanning, Matching For Designers, Artists and Painters

Variable, Inc., has announced the release of NODE+chroma, a sensor module that provides instant information on colors scanned from any surface to your smart device through Bluetooth. This is a huge breakthrough for DIYers considering how affordable and accessible it is when compared to similar sensors in the industry.

“NODE+chroma is the most affordable and easy to use tool for contractors, graphic designers, publishers, interior designers, painters and professionals in virtually any industry where scanning and matching colors to an electronic fan deck is critically important to the core business,” said George Yu, Ph.D, chief executive officer and founder, Variable, Inc. “Using NODE+chroma to find the accurate attributes of any color, anywhere, in less than one second, and at such a low price point, is a fundamental leap forward in the way manufacturers and designers communicate color.”

Technical specifications:

  • DeltaE 2000 for color comparison.
  • When NODE+chroma color information is tested against MacBeth Color-Checker Calibration Target (measured under temperature 24°C ± 2°C ) there is better than 0.80 deltaE reading to reading consistency.
  • Measurement Time: Approximately 1 second.
  • Measurement Area: 1.9 cm^2
