Thin Brick Pavers for Indoor Flooring Thin Brick Pavers for Indoor Flooring

Thin brick pavers are one of the hottest flooring trends in the country. People are using brick pavers in a lot of different ways and in a lot of different rooms. They provide you with a durable floor that looks amazing when installed correctly. Here are a few things to consider about using thin brick pavers for indoor flooring.

Brick Paver Basics

Brick pavers provide you the look of a real brick floor without actually using brick. Brick pavers are usually about 1/2" thick and the top layer looks exactly like a real brick. They come in a variety of different colors so that you can match almost any brick color in the market. If you want a smooth brick or an old-world Chicago look, you can get it with this type of tile.

How it is Installed

Brick pavers, installed inside the house, can make a great do-it-yourself project. If you have any experience with laying tile, you should be able to do brick pavers as well. It is installed in the same manner that ceramic or porcelain tile is installed on the floor. You can put it directly onto a concrete sub floor or use concrete board on top of a wood sub floor. You adhere it to the floor with thinset and you put grout in the joints afterwards.

Sealing the Brick Pavers

Once the floor is installed, it should be sealed properly using a tile sealer. Brick pavers are porous and can absorb liquids. In order to keep it looking good and clean, you should apply a sealer to the top of the pavers and the grout surrounding them. Mopping the entire floor with a good sealer and letting it dry will do wonders for how your brick floor looks in the future.

Benefits of Brick Pavers as Flooring

  • Durability- Brick pavers represent one of the most durable floors in the industry. Many of them are made out of porcelain or clay and are very solid. They can be cracked if you drop something heavy on them, but overall they will wear very well. It would not be out of the question to have the tile down for 20 to 30 years and not notice much of a difference.
  • Easy to clean- With brick pavers, you treat them just as you would tile. Therefore, you are free to wet mop the brick pavers and clean them with a variety of cleaners. This makes maintenance very simple and allows you to deep clean as much as you want.
  • Realistic look- With brick pavers, you can achieve a realistic brick look on the inside floor of your home. You can install them in a straight pattern or stagger them into a true brick pattern. You could even do a design with the brick pavers if you so desired. You can combine a number of other design elements with the floor to achieve nearly any look that you are going for.
