Tips for Building Concrete Countertops Tips for Building Concrete Countertops
When building concrete countertops in your kitchen, there are many things that you have to consider before and while you are working. To avoid any bumps along the way, here are a few tips to follow when completing your kitchen transformation.
Tip 1 - Test the Concrete Mix
Before filling your countertop mold with concrete, make a smaller mold to use as a tester. Often times, you will not know what the final color or product will look like until it has been mixed, poured and dried. To avoid wasting concrete and time, test a smaller amount to make sure that the end product is what you want. Many times if you want a lighter color concrete counter, you will need to add something to your mix. Try adding sand or a lighter mixture and see how you like it before doing the real thing.
Tip 2 - Measure for Openings
Many people do not think about the openings that need to be measured for the countertop. A soap dispenser is a common thing to see coming out of the counter. Be sure to make a list of everything being built into the counter and measure before you cut and begin. Use plywood to hold the places of any openings you have to leave in the mold.
