Tips for Creating Aluminum Trusses

Aluminum trusses form parts of the various structural constructions, used for various purposes. Their wide use includes lighting fixtures for indoor and outdoor use, roofing components and displays.  The trusses are usually constructed using hollow sections of aluminum in circular, square, rectangular or profiled shapes. The trusses can be made in different designs for various applications.

The design of the components of trusses depends on their applications.  The strength and load carrying capacity will also change accordingly. For instance, overhead catwalks and lighting fixtures involve structural loads, and are made with 4 post systems supported by a number of braces. The following are tips for creating trusses:

1. Solid Structures and Welding

The aluminum trusses for higher load applications are mostly constructed by joining the sections with the help of welding processes.  Mostly, the fabrication for big structures is done at the site. However, a few prefabricated trusses or parts may be assembled, using nuts and bolts and other components.

2. Modular Trusses

In many applications, particularly required for lower loads, modular structures are most useful. They are made from slotted sections, and assembled to form the different structures, using a variety of parts for their assembly, depending on the design and usage, with the help of nuts and bolts and clips. The materials used in these types of trusses are slotted sections, base plates, inserts, nuts and bolts, caps, plastic caps, graphic clips, triangular or rectangular base plates, swivel castings, quick clips, etc. These components help in quick installation and dismantling.
