Tips for Installing a Storm Window Replacement Tips for Installing a Storm Window Replacement

When it comes to storm window replacement, there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind. If you are new to window replacements in general, here are a few tips that can help to guide you.

Tip 1 - Measure Three Times

While it seems a little excessive, you want to be measuring the width and height 3 times each. You will measure the width across the top, middle and bottom from jamb to jamb and then when you move on to the height, you can measure up and down from left, middle and right. This ensures that any windows that are uneven or slightly off are taken account for. This actually happens more often than not and can save you some headaches later on.

Tip 2 - No Silicone

While some places may tell you to use silicone, you will want to steer clear and actually use caulk. The reason for this is that if you find yourself having to replace the window again in the future, it will be much easier if you use caulk.

Tip 3 - Leave a Gap

Leave a small gap when you are installing the window. This is important for when the temperature changes. It leaves room for changes and avoids any problems.
