Tips for Installing High Wind Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt shingles are used across the United States. In areas that frequently see high levels of wind, it is important for asphalt shingles to be installed correctly or they will not be resilient against the wind.
Work During Summers
It is important to choose the right time of year for installing asphalt shingles, not only is it dangerous to be working during windy and wet times of year but a self bonding agent requires sunlight to work efficiently, therefore summertime would be the best season for the installation to be carried out.
Work in Clean Area
The surface must be clean before installation. Pay particular attention to warping, dry rot and any old nails stuck in the roof, as a smooth surface is very much required for the installation of shingles.
Layer of Felt
Applying a layer of felt to your roof before adding the asphalt shingles is important, and not just an extra step. Many manufacturers will void their warranty if the installation is carried out with no felt layer.
Install Vertically and Horizontally
If you take a little extra time and run lengths of string vertically and horizontally along your roof, then this will ensure that your asphalt shingles are installed in straight lines. This will also ensure that they do not start to drift diagonally.
When laying the asphalt shingles, ensure that they overlap, as this will give extra security against high wind and rain. After all, taking precaution is better than cure.
