Tips for Measuring Grommet Curtains Tips for Measuring Grommet Curtains
Grommet curtains can look very attractive in a room. It’s important, however, to be sure that you measure correctly or they can end up looking too long or too short. Follow the tips below to ensure that your grommet curtains are measured correctly.
Tip #1 - Drawing
When taking your measurements, transfer them to a drawing of the window. It’s doesn’t have to be exactly to scale, but it will give you a much better idea of how the grommet curtains will look and can prove very useful at the fabric store.
Tip#2 - Curtain Rod
Measure after you have the curtain rod in place, ensuring the hooks from it are above the level of the window. If you don’t do this, you can be left with an awkward gap at the top.
Tip #3 - Length
When measuring length, start ½- inch above the bottom of the hook and measure to the bottom of the window. Add 8 inches to this figure for the lower hem and another 3 inches for the top hem.
Tip #4 - Width
Measure the width of the curtain rod and then multiply this by either 1.5 or 2. The amount will depend on how full you wish the grommet curtains to be. To determine how many panels of fabric you’ll need, take the measurement in inches and divide by 48-the standard fabric width (many fabrics are also in 54-inch widths).
