Basement floor tiles can become tired and old looking. Instead of pulling the entire floor up and removing the old, cracked adhesive you may have considered other ideas for restyling the floor with the use of paint. The use of the correct materials is vital if you want the new floor covering to last a few years.
Tip 1 – The Right Stuff
Use the proper paint for the type of tiles you have on your existing basement floor. There are many types of tiles available for floor covering, including vinyl and ceramic. Purchasing the right paint will help the new surface last longer and not become chipped or worn off straight away.
Tip 2 – Preparation
Always prepare properly. Be aware of the adage “by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” Use the right bonding solution for your project. Vinyl tiles will require a proper vinyl bonding adhesive or primer. There are sprays available called “Easy Surface Preparation” which allow you to spray a fine layer of glue onto the tile before painting.
Tip 3 – Cleaning
Before you even consider painting your tiles on your basement floor you should make sure the floor is thoroughly clean and dry. Wash it well before applying any preparation solution.
