Tips For Removing Wallpaper Glue
Wallpaper glue doesn’t have to be a giant pain to deal with. There are many products on the market that promise to remove the residue for you. These products can be expensive. Before you throw money away on something that may or may not work, try these simple methods first.
In a bucket mix warm water and a few ounces of vinegar. The vinegar doesn’t need to overpower the water, a mix of 1 parts vinegar to 6 parts water is usually enough. Use a sponge and wipe the mixture across the wall with the glue. Let it sit on the wall for about ten minutes. This is enough time for the vinegar to start eating at the glue and it should just peel right off.
Rent a Steamer
If you don’t have a clothes steamer at your house, you can usually rent one for pretty cheaply. You can purchase them too for under a hundred bucks if you think you’ll use it more often. Put the steamer near the glue and let the steam work it’s magic. The glue and stuck paper should slide right off.
Using a mix of 1 part liquid fabric softener to 2 parts water and applying it on the wall with a smudge usually works pretty well too. You need to work in small sections with this and gently wipe the paper away. The fabric softener can stain the rest of the wall and cause unsightly streaks, so have some clean water and clean sponge handy to catch drips.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money on any special products to remove wallpaper glue. In most cases you have everything you need for the job lying around the house.
