Using a Builder's Level Using a Builder's Level
A builder’s level is a beneficial tool to use during the course of many do it yourself projects, enabling you to make sure that surfaces are level. It is necessary to know how to use a level correctly to ensure that components are fitted precisely to help you achieve the result you need.
Step 1 – Plan
Where possible, take the opportunity to undertake some preparatory work for the fixture that you intend to install. For example, if you are fitting a floating shelf, begin by plotting the location and marking a line in the relevant place on the wall. This will enable you to use the builder’s level at this stage to ensure you get the best start.
Step 2 – Install and Test
Using the necessary dimensions, install the fixtures as per the instructions of the item. Once it is in place, start by laying the builder’s level on the horizontal surface of the fixture. Wait for the liquid in the vial to settle and ensure that the bubble is in the centre. The level can also be used on vertical surfaces.
Step 3 – Adjust
Make the necessary adjustments if the builder’s level shows the surface to be uneven. Continue testing with the level as you work.
