Using Household Materials to Clean Your Shower Drain Using Household Materials to Clean Your Shower Drain
When the shower drain is clogged it can create quite a mess when you go to take a shower after a long day. When the shower drain has a clog the water is slow to drain out and you are left standing shin deep in water. Cleaning the drain does not have to include harsh chemicals. There are a few household items that can break up the clog for a free-flowing shower drain.
Vinegar and Baking Soda
The best combination of household items that can work to break up a shower drain clog is white vinegar and baking soda. Although you do not combine the two together, they still work as a team to break up that clog. You simply pour some vinegar down the drain and wait about 30 minutes. Then pour some hot water with baking soda down the drain and watch the backed up water go.
Another cleaner for clogs that are only slowing down the water is powered Borax. Mix some of the powder with some water. Just enough so it is milky looking. Pour the water down the drain and let is sit for a few minutes, then run some hot water.
Simple Cleaning with Salt
If there isn't any clog, but you want to prevent any from forming with periodic cleaning, use some salt and water. Mixing 1/2 cup of salt with 4 liters of water will keep the shower drain free from buildup in the drain.
