Using Natural Sea Salt for a Saltwater Aquarium Using Natural Sea Salt for a Saltwater Aquarium

If you have a saltwater aquarium, you will want to be careful about the type of water and salt that you are using. Here is a quick guideline that can help you with natural sea salt.

Find Salt

Finding the best natural sea salt can be confusing, especially if you have never used it before. Thankfully though, you can find it at many general stores.

Use a Hydrometer

When setting up your aquarium with natural sea salt, it is important to use a hydrometer to help measure the amount of salt that you are using so that it does not harm any of the fish. To do this, add the salt slowly and continue to take readings as you go along. The number that you are looking to stay around is about 1.022 although close to it is okay.

Let Sit

Once you have measured the salt level, you will want to let it sit for a little bit before making changes or adding fish. This is because the salt may take a while to set in and can change the level. Measure one final time after everything but the fish have been put into the aquarium.

This should help guide you in using natural sea salt for your aquarium.
