A window valance is the form of a particular window treatment that covers the uppermost part of the window. The window valance can be hung up alone above the window or paired with window blinds, or a set of curtains. Valances have become popular because of their function in concealing the hardware necessary to operate drapes and curtains.
Most Popular Valance Styles
The most well known and used valance styles of the modern day are:
- Balloon Valances: Fabric in this kind of valance 'balloons,' providing full appearance.
- Swag Valances: The kind of valance uses fabric which hangs across brackets and drapes along the top of a window, and has tails hanging down on each side.
- Scarf valance – a valance made of a very thin or sheer fabric.
- Ascot Valances: This valance forms triangular shapes hanging over the curtains or drapes. An ascot valance is usually made of more expensive and elaborate materials like velvet and silk, and may have fringe and tassels.
