Vermiculite allows for a longer drying time in substances. This is especially useful for curing concrete because the longer the concrete is allowed to cure the stronger it will be. When curing concrete you should include vermiculite.
- When adding vermiculite to concrete you should mix it at a ratio of 3 parts of vermiculite to 1 part of concrete. The 3 to 1 ratio is good for most applications including walls and walkways. If you happen to be building a pool then you will want to mix it at a ratio of 7 parts vermiculite to 1 part concrete.
- Next you need to figure out how much water you need to add to be able to mix it. The consistency should be similar to that of a mud pie. After you have achieved this, pour your finished product and allow it to sit and cure. If you can cover it with plastic sheeting then do so.
What is Vermiculite?
Vermiculite is created by super heating volcanic rock. It’s a lightweight aggregate that can be commonly used in concrete and other mixtures.
