What Causes Concrete Spalling? What Causes Concrete Spalling?
If you notice pits and pock marks in the surface of your concrete, that make your concrete surface look like it is infested with craters, then you have what is known as concrete spalling. Concrete spalling is caused by a combination of conditions, some of them you can prevent, others you cannot. Over time, concrete can weaken with the constant expansion and contraction due the change in the weather. When there is inadequate protection on the concrete, such as a clear coat topping, then this expansion and contraction can start to break up the top surface of the concrete, creating spalling.
