What is the best way to set a log on a splitter? What is the best way to set a log on a splitter?
A log splitter is today’s modern equivalent of driving spikes down the center of a log to break it into usable pieces. Machine power is always preferable to muscle power and a machine-driven log splitter should have the log laid into it along its axis so the maul end can take up any slack in the device and pull the maul toward the plate. This should split the log down the middle as easily as a hot knife through butter. Don’t forget standard safety procedures: a hardhat, safety glasses, heavy gloves, coveralls (in case splinters break away) and heavy boots to protect your feet.
