What to Consider when Buying a Window Air Conditioner Bracket What to Consider when Buying a Window Air Conditioner Bracket
Under certain circumstances it may be a good idea to buy a window air conditioner bracket along with the AC. These mounting brackets are important as they provide support ti the air conditioning unit so that it works effectively.
What is an Window Air Conditioner Bracket For?
The main purpose of having a mounting bracket is to keep the air conditioner or is slightly tipped back. This angle ensures that that a certain amount of water is maintained at the base of the unit. Approximately 1/2 inch of water should be present at the bottom of the casing at all times to keep the coils cool. Inside the unit, there is a fan that spins in front of aluminium fins. The fan blades that are on the outside ring spin water to splash it onto the coils to keep them cool. Otherwise the air conditioning unit will overheat.
Air Conditioners Need Support?
It would be prudent for all window air conditioners require support brackets. Air conditioners that are heavy or are older always need a support bracket. However, this is only an option if it is a new, light air conditioning unit as a good, solid window frame can help to support it.
What is the Support Bracket Made Of?
Window air conditioning support brackets are generally about the same size—approximately 40x50 inches. However, they can come in various materials—steel, aluminum alloy, or stainless steel. To purchase the right air conditioning mounting bracket you must know how heavy the unit is as the mounting brackets all have different operation load strengths. After all, you do not exactly want your brand new window air conditioner to fall down to the ground and break if you get the wrong one!
Standard Support Brackets
Standard support brackets are small yet sturdy. They are made out of steel with a polyester powder coating, while the galvanized screws and rivets are zinc-coated. They can typically carry a weight of about 100 to 200 kilograms (220 to 400 oz.).
Welded Support Brackets
Welded support brackets are smooth and are protected through electrostatic powder painting and phosphating. As a result, they are very strong and can carry an operation load of 200 to 250 kilograms (400 to 551 oz.). They also have an anti-corrosion feature.
Aluminum Support Brackets
Aluminum support brackets are high quality and have a long life span. They are light yet can carry a heavy load as they are made out of alumnium alloy. Typically, the screws and rivets are zinc-coated and may come with additional screws to increase their strength. They can carry between 100 and 150 kilograms (220 to 330 oz.)
Stainless Steel Mounting Brackets
Stainless steel mounting brackets are strong and durable. They are made out of stainless steel sheeting, and the rivets and screws are made out of stainless steel and zinc coated. They can carry between 150 and 200 kilograms (330 to 400 oz.).
